Avatar Explanation Part 2

Hosted by Photobucket.com

Quite often SRK.com has a lot of relationship help threads. Threads imploring people to help them talk to this one girl, or how to approach girls, or whether or not to stay pursuing a girl. In some respect, these two avatars are the result of all the idiocy that comes with the female relationship.

These sprites have been ripped from the game Street Fighter III 3rd Strike - Fight For The Future, one of the most fluidly animated fighting games out there on the market. The animation is quite stunning on every character, however sadly the game itself met with little success compared to the early days of Street Fighter 2. One thing is that you can go through an entire set of a character and notice a lot of animation quirks that were never seen before. It's quite sad that the game moves so fast that you can't see these neat little animations.

However I didn't rip these sprites myself obviously, since they came from this website, which conviniently had the entire sprite sets of each character set up in zipped files.

The first mating ritual is basically explaining a certain phrase being tossed around the boards; >Surprise Sex, a term I don't know actually appeared in any news clippings as a defense to rape, or just something evolved out of internet lingo. Nevertheless, surprise sex is a pretty crass but funny way to show how desperate some of the people on SRK.com have to sink in order to get some.

The second method refers good old fashion Handjobs (HJ), however the sad thing being they would have to trick someone in order to get the handjob, namely placing your wang and a bannana at a convinient place. The term assist isn't thrown in there for no reason, but refers to a now popular term on the boards in regards to the assist system from MvC1 and MvC2. The system is basically assigned to a button or a combination of buttons that basically calls out an extra character on the screen causing an attack. It's funny because quite often these said attacks can really determine the difference between a solid win and a solid loss, in fact a lot of the times, these assists help in prolonging the hurt that you can put onto someone.

Now the term assist can be used interchangably as to anything that helps out a person. Much like "Emeril with ESSENCE assist" or "Conan O Brien with Triumph the Dog Assist", it can be used with anyone with anything, or even objects with anything.

As for the names of the genus....well for a vid gaming message board, SRK.com is pretty much devoid of women/girls. Conviniently stolen from the Road Runner clips. Sadly our resident freak before our very eyes, cybered with a guy posing as a girl by the name of Redqueen, only to be later revealed....to be a guy. Even more frightening is that they wonderfully decided to keep a friendly relationship, considering our resident freak...well he's our resident freak. I can count the active posting female population that I know of prolly on one hand. Of course there are plenty of horny male individuals online on the board....you just have to give them a chance. Avatar explanation Part 1.

Hosted by Photobucket.com
As you might have guessed, I have been making avatars for a while.  It started as an out for my lack of art as well an expression of creativity on the message board I usually attend.  Obviously many of these avatars have a specific sort of humour, most of the time related to the in jokes created by on the board topic....Street fighter and other Fighting games.

I decided to start out with this one because of the certain universal appeal of it regardless of not knowing who the characters are.  Basically I was inpsired by the stance of this stance of Captain Commando; A character that had his own beat'em up side scrolling arcade game sometime in the 1990's developed by Capcom, and brought back as a fighting game character in Marvel VS. Capcom 1 and in it's sequel MvC2, As you can see his stance is pretty erratic almost eccentric,; I imagined that he would be like a beatnik, therefore the black colour scheme.

His admirers were characters from other fighting games, starting from the Upper right going clockwise, it is Sabretooh, Gambit, Jin Satome and Rolento. In fact all of their snap animations were ripped when they made a super move (a reall flash high damaging move).

The dialogue itself, is ripped from Captain Commando's ending where the people of planet earth ask "Who are you?", and he camly replies (in a garbled stereo voice at the time) I am......Captain Commando.  I guess it was a name to be remembered if any other danger threaten's the earth. That very same line is repeated in his MvC1 ending (MvC2 has a genric one ending for ALL characters due to how large the character roster is *52*) when you defeat Onslaught who is the final boss of MvC1.; I imagined that hey....perhaps just reciting his dialogue is prententious enough.

I guess the hardest part of this avatar is how much time it took to get the palette swap done.  It makes me wonder if Imagready is really at all hot, or if Paint Shop Pro's program might prove easier to switch colour schemes.

Double Review, Garden State and Constantine

Garden State

I didn't find Garden State particularly enjoyable, but I didn't exactly find it a waste of time. In some ways I sort of felt the film as more of a small documentary of someone's few days of being at home with strict rules of recording everything, exciting or not. It was interesting watching the film because it sort of reflects how life is in Fort St. John, moreso the fact that it shows a bunch of people who have set up shop/life in their hometown, faced to live in it in some form or matter. Whether it be sucessful, a complete loser or a person just biding their time until they leave.

The problem with this film, (which is also refreshing) is that it's so anti climatic. There's no real jumps or bumps on this venture of this person, but a series of events which otherwise never put the characters in any real difficult situations or choices, except at the end. But the end again is one that has been played out so much, that even being different or in this case being normal has become cliche. However the emphasis is on how real the characters are, basing them on weird little antics and some real life situations.

Constantine

Well the verdict is in, and I particularly enjoyed this film. I don't really know much about Hellblazer in general, other than the scant experience I had with Constantine in the Sandman tradepaperback. And I'm a sucker for the occult. But what I found interesting about the film is that it was approached more as a film, than a comic book adaption, more that anyother comic book adapted film that I have viewed. Often when comics have been adapted, there is more of an emphasis on copying/translating the art of the comic, than creating art with the camera. And I feel that Constantine has kinda balanced between making a good film and a good comic film.

What I also found interesting about the whole film is that I think it struck a really great balance between humour and more serious parts. The thing with comics is that they have this inherant comedy in all forms of their writing. Whether it be dark, sort of twisted or just cheesy, it's interesting to see this comedy because in the comic universe, they are taken deadly serious. In the film, I find it interesting that some of the more humourous moments translated into that kinda humour. Not necssarily appropriate but not especially cheesy. Much like how a hero spits out a one liner that we think is cool, yet pathetic in real life, Constantine has taken movie universe humour and applied it to this film.

Ultimately I thought it was a good film, but not so great that it deserves anymore than what I should assign it because it entertained me. I do realize that some of the dialogue is pretty horrible, that fans can be pretty much angry at the translation, and that sort of brings down the score a bit. But I can't be really that bias.

Review of Saw:

Care for a mind fuck? Well you won't really find it here. Nowadays for the average movie goer, it's pretty hard to pull the wool over someone's eyes of what's going to happen. And even if you do manage to do so, it's hard to do it in such a way where to makes the viewer feels that they could actaully get it, piece the puzzle piece by piece, instead of tossing out a twist for the sake that "omfg we know, but you don't".

The worst offender of this was Ocean's 12, which threw in a twist SO out of left field, it's like they added an addition to the movie while the viewer was watching something else.

But for Saw it wasn't as blatent but it was alright. Overall it was a good film, although far too often it relied on music video cinematography to express some of the scarier moments. Unfortunately I have seen films that have disturbed me more and just blew my mind more, which is Old Boy.
